Piracy Report

Interesting report on the effects of piracy on sales. It tends to support the argument that people downloading material from the internet would not have purchased it otherwise. Re: Equality ?

Both guilty of assault I would say. The video makes a few valid points about equality but pushes the argument too far. I can still act as a gentleman and show a lady some common courtesy while treating her as an equal - provided she acts like a lady. A feminist doesn't have to be unfeminine.

Re: What does England have.?

I think that, maybe because we have such a rich cultural history anyway, our music constantly moves forward and is not stuck with one traditional form for which we are known. It's why we stay current and tend to be a leader in whatever is the popular music of the time.

Re: Hypothetical

Unfortunately I don't think any of the psychoactive drugs used as a "truth serum" work any where near as effectively in reality as they do in tv or film fiction. I wouldn't have an objection to them being used to try to prevent crime. I would not want any statement given under the influenc...

Re: Parsons Green Tube statio terrorist attack

I think it is generally accepted that racism is not limited to a strict biological definition of a race. It came into common usage to identify discriminatory treatment due to skin colour. Black people are not a "race". Cultural racism is discrimination against a group sharing similar physi...

Re: Doing the Business !!!

Not in Britain today it wouldn't. Local authority tendering and contracting is strictly governed by Contract Procedure Rules, Financial Regulations and Procurement Directives. It is transparent and based on genuine competition. Contracts have to be put out to tender. Tenders are advertised on counc...

Re: what do you pay ?

Paul, My understanding is that, as a resident in Spain, you are taxed on the value of your worldwide assets. However, you have an allowance of about €600,000 and an exemption of €300,0000 on your property in Spain, so a lot of ex-pats can avoid it. As a non-resident, I am taxed only on assets in Spa...

Re: what do you pay ?

We have a holiday home. We don't ever rent it out. We pay the Suma direct and the "wealth tax" through our fiscal representative. Year ago we also had to pay a tax on assumed rentals that we never made, but that was eventually dropped.
